The management committee of Beijing’s central business district said it will build experience centers and demonstration projects for smart and scientific development.

“The CBD will focus its work on upgrading government functions and services, and public life and wisdom,” said the committee.

The Beijing government has named the district a zone of the “headquarters economy” and business services and aims to give priority to the development of international financial business, modern services and cultural media.

“We will be well prepared, run pilot projects, then expand and upgrade ourselves to build a smart CBD,” said the organizing committee, which held multinational exhibitions during the Beijing Fair to showcase smart products and services.

The excellent location and convenient transportation system have attracted many key market players to settle in the area, and a total of 77 well-known multinationals are located in the CBD - including Shell, Toyota and Samsung - accounting for more than two thirds of the total of multinationals in Beijing.

The committee also said that 140 Global Fortune 500 companies have settled in the area - with 339 branch companies - contributing nearly 9 billion yuan in tax last year, a third of CBD’s total.

In addition,1,000 financial institutions, including 252 from overseas, are located in the CBD.

More than 2,000 cultural and media organizations have their operations in the CBD - including the Wall Street Journal, CNN and BBC - and there are also more than 9,000 companies that engage in consulting, accounting and legal businesses as well as investment management.

The CBD is also home to many landmark buildings, such as the China World Trade Center, CCTV building and China Beijing TV Station.

The organizing committee said that it would continue to optimize the economic development environment and improve services to boost investment during China’s 12th Five-Year Plan.

“We expect the number of multinational headquarters to reach 80 by the end of 2015, consolidating CBD’s position as a business center,” said an official with the organizing committee.
