Beijing will give free passage to small passenger cars with seven seats or less during China’s Tomb Sweeping Day, running from April 4 to 6.

To increase traffic efficiency during Tomb Sweeping Day, dedicated lanes will be assigned by the major road gateways according to actual traffic volume and motorcycle distribution.

If there are serious traffic jams during the toll-free holiday, the concerning departments will take effective measures for traffic dispersion. Toll road entrances will be closed if necessary.

When passengers are held up in toll roads because of emergencies, the service areas will provide them with gas, drinking water, food and free lodging services.

During the three-day holiday, Beijing’s real-time traffic information and service information will be announced to citizens through microblog, broadcasts and TV station for their reference.

Road inspections will be intensified by the departments of road property and road maintenance, according to the Beijing Municipal Roadway Administration Bureau.

Citizens in Beijing are reminded to check traffic information before driving, avoid rush hours and congested roads, and utilize public transportation.

Citizens are also suggested to avoid driving in case of severe weather like smog, strong winds or snowstorms during the holiday.
