Shanghai hospital addresses asymptomatic infection concerns
Q: Why do we think the most important job at the moment is to prevent asymptomatic cases imported from foreign countries severely affected by the pandemic?
A: Many parts of the country have shift their focus to preventing the virus' spread from overseas sources since early March. Some asymptomatic cases have been spotted among the imported cases in the past weeks.
Shanghai has required all inbound travelers to undergo a two-week quarantine at hotels and medical tests upon arrival. Such measures are even stricter than those in Singapore and we believe these measures will play an important role in effectively preventing a secondary outbreak of the contagion in the country.
Q: How should people cope with the situation when asymptomatic cases become a heated issue these days?
A: There is no need for the public to be over-concerned about the impact of such cases on public health when the country is conducting close tracking of all confirmed local cases and has set up a strict procedure of preventing the virus' spread from overseas.
We just need to maintain good habits like washing our hands frequently and thoroughly and wearing masks in crowded public venues. If you discover that you have come into close contact with a confirmed case, get in touch with a local medical institution or center for disease control and prevention immediately. If we stick to these rules, we will be safe enough.
