The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention released technical guidelines to help disease control agencies and relevant institutions at all levels to carry out laboratory testing for the novel coronavirus.

Testing specimens shall be collected by qualified technicians who have received bio-safety training, are practiced in the corresponding laboratory skills and wear personal protective equipment, according to the guidelines.

Respiratory tract specimens in the acute phase must be collected from each case, including upper respiratory tract specimens, respiratory tract extracts, deep cough sputum, bronchial lavage fluid and serum specimen, as well as other materials.
