Can gamma globulin prevent COVID-19? | Updated: 2020-03-12 00:02

Rumor: Gamma globulin can prevent COVID-19.

Gamma globulin, a kind of immunoglobulin product, is extracted from healthy human plasma through low temperature alcohol methods and virus inactivation treatment. It contains broad spectrum antivirus, bacteria and IgG antibodies of other pathogens.

An injection of gamma globulin is to transfer large amounts of the antibodies contained in the immunoglobulin into the recipient, who will gain a temporary immunity increase from a low or unprotected level. Immunoglobulin products are effective at preventing bacterial and viral infections. However, no evidence is available to prove that gamma globulin can prevent the novel coronavirus.

What's more, the improper usage of gamma globulin can cause allergic reactions and side-effects in immune and blood systems.
