Germany wins table tennis men's team bronze medal

LONDON - Germany won the bronze medal in table tennis men's team event at the London Olympic Games on Wednesday after beating Hong Kong, China in four matches.

Germany's star player Timo Boll beat Hong Kong's Leung Chu Yan (11-6, 11-3, 11-7) in the opening match. His teammate Dimitrij Ovtcharov, the London men's singles bronze medalist, fought off a strong challenge from Hong Kong's Tang Peng and won 3-1 (13-11, 11-13, 11-9, 11-9).

Hong Kong pair Jiang Tianyi and Leung fought aggressively to keep their match alive. They won the doubles against German pair Bastian Steger/Ovtcharov 3-0 (12-10, 11-8, 11-4).

Boll secured Germany's bronze medal after beating Jiang 3-1 (9-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-9).

China will compete with South Korea in the men's team final in the afternoon.

Germany was the silver medal winner in men's team events at Beijing 2008.
