KABUL, July 2 (Xinhua) -- A powerful explosion hit a military base of the NATO-led troops in the eastern Afghan capital of Kabul early Tuesday morning, a witness said.
"I heard a big bang at around 4:35 a.m. (local time). It could be a car bombing. The blast followed by gunshots. It targeted a compound of foreign forces in Pul-e-Charkhi area near our resident, " witness Mohammd Khan told Xinhua.
He said British and Turkish forces are stationed in the camp, he said.
No casualty reports were immediately available. No officials from Afghan security agencies were immediately available to make comments.
Security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures. The blast sent a plume of grey smoke above the scene, the witness said.
No group claimed responsibility for the attacks, but Taliban suspects routinely claim responsibility for such attacks.
