The Superga air disaster occurred on May 4, 1949 when the Fiat G.212 of Avio Linee Italiane (Italian Airlines), carrying the Torino football team - known as Il Grande Torino - crashed into the retaining wall at the back of the Basilica of Superga, which stands on the hill of Turin. All 31 people on board the plane were killed, including 18 players, five club officials, three journalists, four crew members and a game organizer. [Photo/IC]
