THE HAGUE - 193 Dutch citizens have died in the Malaysia Airlines MH17 passenger plane crash in eastern Ukraine on Thursday, a spokesman of the Dutch foreign ministry told Xinhua on Saturday.
Malaysian Airlines issued a list with a total of 192 Dutch passengers killed on Thursday, including 192 Dutchmen, 44 Malaysians, 27 Australians, 12 Indonesians, 10 Britons, 4 Belgians, 4 Germans, 3 Philipinos, 1 Canadian, 1 New Zealander.
The Dutch casualties include someone with a dual Dutch/American nationality and the UK number includes someone with dual UK/South African citizenship.
However, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has a different interpretation of the nationalities, after checking the list with the municipal personal records database.
The Dutch casualties include someone with a dual Dutch/American nationality and the UK number includes someone with dual UK/South African citizenship.
"One other passenger had a dual nationality, Malaysian and Dutch," Aad Meijer, the spokesman said. "Malaysian Airlines counts him as Malaysian, we as a Dutchman."
