TOKYO - A strong quake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 jolted northeastern parts of Japan at 2:07 pm local time (0816 GMT), according to Japan Meteorological Agency.
Severe tremors were felt in Fukushima and Ibaraki prefectures. No abnormalities have been found so far in external power sources at crippled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, operator said. But workers at the plant had been ordered to evacuate. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to properties.
