WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama Tuesday spoke with Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan to extend the nations' support for Japan's reconstruction efforts after the devastating earthquake.

Obama reiterated that the United States is determined to give Japanese people short-term and long-term support in their efforts to deal with the devastating effects of this tragedy. Kan thanked Obama for the extensive US help in the response effort.
The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of close US-Japanese cooperation in dealing with the ongoing nuclear emergency, according to the statement.
