Death toll rises to 6,539 in Japan

TOKYO - The National Police Agency said Friday that the catastrophic March 11 earthquake and ensuing tsunami have left 6,539 people dead and 10,354 others unaccounted for in Japan by 2:00 pm (0500 GMT) Friday.
