TOKYO - The Chinese embassy in Tokyo said Friday that the safety of up to 14,121 Chinese nationals has been confirmed by 7:30 am Friday (2230 GMT Thursday).
On Thursday the embassy confirmed that one Chinese national was killed in Ishinomaki city of the worst-hit Miyagi Prefecture when the quake-triggered tsunami hit the area.
According to data released by the National Police Agency Thursday, the March 11 catastrophic quake and ensuing tsunami have left 5,429 people dead and 9,594 others unaccounted for in Japan.
