US: IMF can keep up global role amid probe

WASHINGTON - A White House spokesman on Tuesday said he is confident that the International Monetary Fund will be able to function and fulfill its global role, amid the allegations of sexual assault by its chief.

Spokesman Jay Carney would not comment on whether a potential successor to IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn should definitely be a European, as has been the tradition.
