BEIJING - Chinese President Hu Jintao said Tuesday that China was satisfied with its relations with the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Hu made the remarks in a written interview with ROK media prior to the fifth G20 Summit scheduled for Nov 11 and 12 in Seoul.

China and the ROK were close neighbors, sharing similar cultures and a long tradition of friendly ties, Hu said.

China and the ROK had ushered in a new stage of their relationship since forging diplomatic ties in 1992, Hu said, citing the comprehensive, rapid development of bilateral cooperation, frequent high-level exchanges and deeper strategic mutual trust.

The two countries enjoyed close trade ties, active cultural exchanges and increased understanding and friendship between their peoples, he said.

Both sides had maintained good coordination in international and regional affairs and expanded common interests.

"I am satisfied with the development of our bilateral relations," he said.

China and the ROK were important countries in northeast Asia, Hu said, and consolidation of the bilateral relationship would be in the fundamental interests of both countries.

It would also contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region, he said.

"China is willing to work with the ROK to deepen cooperation in all areas and lift the strategic cooperative partnership to a new level," said Hu.
