The National Democratic Alliance led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won a sweeping victory in the general election of India by crossing the 300 seat mark in the 543-seat Lok Sabha or lower house of parliament, as is being shown by the vote counting process which began Friday morning and is being broadcast live by local TV channels.

Meanwhile, the Congress has admitted a humiliating defeat, one of the worst in its history, according to local TV reports.
