Friends from the Chinese and African media community,
Dear guests, ladies and gentlemen,
Good morning!
Heads of 120 media from 47 African countries and colleagues from the Chinese media community are gathered here today at the China-Africa Media Summit to discuss how we can "create a new era of win-win media cooperation between China and Africa". This is a significant achievement of deepening the China-Africa cultural exchange and a brand new gala in the history of China-Africa media cooperation. I would like to call your special attention to the fact that this summit is held at a historical juncture of China-Africa relations. In a few days, the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) will kick off in Johannesburg. Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony and deliver a keynote speech, and he will co-chair the plenary session of the summit with South African President Zuma. Leaders from China and African countries will hold extensive discussions in the theme of "win-win cooperation & common development", in a bid to intensify the solidarity and cooperation between China and Africa and lead their cooperative relations into a bright future. It will be a milestone in the development of China-Africa relations.
In the general trend of China-Africa cooperation and development, the Chinese and African media communities shoulder the important mission of promoting mutual understanding and common development. To fulfill this mission, you, friends from the media, have travelled from far and wide to gather in Cape Town to push the media community on both sides to continue working together based on previous achievements. By reporting news and delivering information, we will jointly deepen the traditional friendship between China and Africa, promote common development, and create a new era of win-win cooperation between Chinese and African media!
On behalf of the State Council Information Office of China, I would like to extend my warm welcome to the guests and heartfelt gratitude to the host for its strenuous efforts for preparing this summit!
Friends, ladies and gentlemen!
China and Africa are located far away from each other, but our hearts have always been together. In the 1950s and 1960s, the first-generation leaders of the New China represented by Mao Zedong and African politicians of that time jointly created a new epoch of China-Africa relations. In the past 50-plus years when China and Africa have respectively pursued national independence and liberation and economic development, they have always helped and supported each other. The Tanzania-Zambia Railway jointly built by China and Africa remains a monument to bilateral friendship today. In recent years, China-Africa relations have got on the fast track of all-round development. Plenty of cooperation achievements have been made in political, economic, trade and cultural sectors, and personnel exchange between the two sidesexceeds three million person times a year, expanding the social and public foundation for China-Africa friendship and setting a good example for South-South cooperation. The history of China-Africa exchanges and cooperation is a history of China and Africa pressing ahead together through sincere cooperation.
