ATHENS - Greece's snap general elections will take place on Sept. 20, according to a presidential decree issued on Friday.
The decree, which is traditionally posted on the doors of the parliament building's main entrance, formally dissolves the current assembly and sets also the date for the first session of the new parliament for Oct. 1.
The official declaration of the early national polls came eight days after the resignation of the eight-month Leftist government of former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and the appointment of an interim administration under the Greek Constitution.
The transitional government under Supreme Court head Vassiliki Thanou, who became on Thursday Greece's first female Premier, was sworn in earlier on Friday.
