Death toll from Nepal quake soars to 6,841

(Xinhua) Updated: 2015-05-02 21:15

KATHMANDU - Nepalese police said the death toll from last week's powerful earthquake has climbed to 6,841 as more reports from remote areas and rescue workers retrieved more bodies from the rubbles.

More than 14,000 people have been reported injured.

Severely-hit regions including Gorkha have been expecting for more aid.

Rescue missions failed to reach such remote areas as Gorkha due to road traffic obstructions.

Insufficient food and water supply as well as poor sanitation have been posing threat to thousands living in makeshift tents.

Some residents in Kathmandu have moved back to their damaged houses as efforts to retrieve bodies from the rubbles continued despite dwindling hope to find more survivors a week after the deadly 7.9-magnitude quake.
