KINSHASA - At least four people have been killed on Monday in clashes between police and protesters in the Democratic Republic of Congo's capital Kinshasa prompted by a demonstration against the amendment of constitution, witnesses said.

Xinhua reporters saw robbed shops and turned over cars at one of the clash site in Victoire. Slogans against President Joseph Kabila were also seen at the site.

There has been reports that some wounded has been sent to local hospitals. Photos posted by demonstrators show men in police uniform lie on the ground in blood.

Witnesses said several shops were robbed, and some parts of the city cordoned off.

A business man said his shop, near the police station of the Lemba Bypass, was robbed and himself beaten. Another shop owner said most of the shops on the street where he operates were looted.

Police officers have been deployed around the city, but the government has so far given no response to the incident.
