DPRK marks anniversary of Kim Jong-un's assumption of supreme commandership

PYONGYANG -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a national meeting Monday to mark the third anniversary of Kim Jong-un's assumption of supreme commandership of the Korean People's Army (KPA), the official KCNA news agency reported.

Addressing the meeting, Army General Ri Yong-gil praised Kim as a "great brilliant commander who is training the KPA to be politically, ideologically and morally strong army."

Kim made sure that all service personnel are equipped with "perfect capability to fight real battles" and the military equipment was steadily improved as required by modern warfare, Ri said in the speech.

Also attending the meeting were senior party officials including Kim Ki-nam and Choe Thae-bok.

Kim Jong-un has been officially holding the position of supreme commander of the KPA, since Dec 30, 2011.
