HOUSTON - A Texas woman was sentenced to nearly two years in prison Tuesday for mailing a letter that threatened the life of US President Barack Obama, local media reported.

A federal court in Houston sentenced Teddy Bear Paradise to 21 months of imprisonment after the 56-year-old woman pleaded guilty of threatening to kill Obama, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Persecutors said Paradise, formerly known as Denise O'Neal, admitted to sending the letter addressed to Obama and telling him she was traveling to Washington to kill him.

She later told two Secret Service agents of her intention and that if she couldn't commit the act herself, she would hire someone else to do it.

According to US media, it was the second time the woman have been charged with threatening to assassinate a sitting president.

She pleaded guilty of sending letters in 2008 to threaten the life of then President George W. Bush.
