2 Chinese tourists drown in Fiji

SUVA - Two Chinese tourists have drowned while diving at a resort in Fiji, the Chinese embassy confirmed Tuesday.

The two male Chinese nationals, 21, studying in the University of Waikato in New Zealand, drowned around 5:30 pm Monday while snorkel diving in the Nacula waters of the Yasawa Group of islands in Ba Province, and attempts to revive them failed, sources from the Chinese embassy told Xinhua.

Meanwhile, two female Chinese fellow overseas students who traveled to Fiji from New Zealand together with the two victims are safe and sound, said the sources.

The bodies of the two victims have been transported to the Lautoka Hospital, and their families were on the way to Fiji from China, according to the sources.

The Chinese embassy reminds Chinese tourists to Fiji to raise self-protection awareness and secure personal and property safety.
