By Ayutthaya | Xinhua | Updated: 2013-04-29 00:40

BANGKOK - At least five people were killed and 45 others were injured after a bridge collapsed in Thailand's central province of Ayutthaya Sunday evening, local media reported.

The 31-year-old suspension bridge, located in Tha Rua District over the Pa Sak River, collapsed in the middle as its main cables that support the deck snapped, reports said.

A lot of people were walking and riding by motorcycles across the four-meter-wide and 120-meter-long bridge.

The casualty is expected to rise as more people might have been trapped under the debris.

The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. At least five are in serious condition.
