US moving radar platform closer to Korean Peninsula

Xinhua | Updated: 2013-04-02 04:55

WASHINGTON - The US Navy is moving a sea-based radar platform closer to the Korean Peninsula in order to monitor military moves of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), including possible new missile launches, CNN quoted a Defense Department official as saying on Monday.

The report said the Navy deployed an oil rig-like SBX-1 radar, and is the first of what may be other deployments.

It also came after the United States has conducted overflights of nuclear-capable B-2 stealth bombers to the peninsula, and the deployment of F-22 Raptor stealth fighters to South Korea.
