SINGAPORE - The website of Singapore statutory body People's Association has been attacked by hackers, local media reported on Monday.

The My Paper said the hackers put a picture on the web page that carries an image of a figure in a hoodie against a dark background with the words "HighTech Brazil HackTeam."

A spokesperson for the People's Association said it has discovered an "intrusion" into its corporate website on Sunday. The website has been down on Sunday and Monday morning.

A screen capture of the hacked website was circulated online.

The spokesperson said the People's Association was investigating the incident and tightening the security of the website and "will restore it as soon as possible".

Hacking of websites of the government agencies or statutory bodies has been rare in the past. Local daily Lianhe Zaobao said the last such incident was reported in 1999.
