Wen, Obama reaffirm strong China-US ties

China and the United States on Tuesday hailed their ties as one of the most important in the world, not only for the Asia-Pacific region but for the prosperity of the world as a whole.

Premier Wen Jiabao and US President Barack Obama made the remarks during their meeting at a summit of Asian nations taking place in Cambodia.

Wen said he hopes both sides will convey to the world such positive messages, which is that the countries will insist on pushing forward their mutual respect and beneficial cooperative partnership and enhance bilateral trade.

He said the two countries should solve problems and differences through large-scale economic and financial cooperation.

"We will continue to enhance communication and consultation on international and regional issues, especially in the Asia-Pacific region," Wen said.

Obama said he is committed to working with China and working with Asia "It is important that our two countries cooperate to build a more secure and prosperous future of Asia Pacific region and for the world," he said.

He said as the two largest economies in the world, both China and the United States have a special responsibility to lead the way and ensure a sustained and balanced growth not only here in Asia but globally.

He vowed to work together with China to establish clear rules for trade and investment, which can increase prosperity and global growth.

"I very much appreciated Premier Wen's engagement with the United States on the issues," he said, adding it would help to continue the process of strengthening the relationship between the United States and China.
