Emirates airline to resume flights to Tripoli

Xinhua | Updated: 2012-08-14 10:41

DUBAI - The Middle East's largest carrier Emirates said Monday it will restart flights to the Libyan capital Tripoli from October 29, 16 months after it cancelled the route in the wake of the turmoil in the North African country.

Emirates, 100 percent owned by the Dubai government, said it will serve the re-installed route four times a week with Airbus 330-200 planes.

The turmoil in oil-rich Libya broke out in the spring of 2011 and led to the fall of its former leader Muammar Gaddafi in the autumn. Since then, the country turned back to relative stability, with elections for a new parliament held in July this year.
