Ambassador visits injured Chinese in Zambia
The Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao visited injured Chinese in hospital on Monday and urged Zambia's government to investigate the violent incidents as soon as possible, the Chinese embassy said on Tuesday.
Chinese citizen Wu Shengzai, 51, was killed and four others were injured on Saturday in labor clashes at Chinese firm Collum Coal Mining Industries Ltd in Zambia's Southern Province, according to a press release from the embassy.
The release clarified the dispute process, saying that the Chinese were extremely restrained to avoid intense confrontations during the incident. Two locals were injured, it said.
Zhou said such violence was unacceptable and that the embassy would urge the Zambian government to investigate it and arrest the criminals as soon as possible to fairly address the victims' demands.
Zhou also presented compensations to the injured Chinese on the behalf of the embassy.
