NEW DELHI - India Friday successfully testfired its home developed nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Agni-II ballistic missile off the coast of the eastern state of Orissa, an official said.

"The trial of the surface-to-surface missile, conducted from Launch complex-IV of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at about 09: 30 am, was fully successful," ITR Director S.P. Dash told the media.

The missile, with a strike range of 2,000 km, has been developed as one of the key weapon systems of India's nuclear deterrence program, and is to be inducted into the Indian Army.

The missile has a length of 20 meters, diameter of one meter and weighs around 17 tons, and it is equipped with a special navigation system to achieve high degree of accuracy.
