TEHRAN - Iran Air's chairman Farhad Parvaresh dismissed fresh US sanctions against the country's state-owned airline, local English language satellite Press TV reported on Sunday.
"Iran's national airline is a member of the International Air Transport Association and it is committed to the international aviation law," Parvaresh said on Saturday, adding that the airline 's operations are completely within the framework of the aviation agreements and are legal.
The United States on Thursday imposed sanctions on two major Iranian commercial entities including Iran Air, the country's national carrier.
The Department of Treasury alleged that Iran Air is used by the country's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL) to transport military related equipment.
US Secretary of Treasury Timothy Geithner and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday that preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons is a top US government priority and the US remains "deeply concerned" about the country's nuclear intentions. The charges are completely denied by the Islamic Republic.
