STOCKHOLM - Geely Holding Group's Swedish unit Volvo Cars says it is going to hire 600 workers at its plants in Sweden and Belgium as it ramps up production of some of its latest car models thanks to strong demand.

Friday's announcement comes after Volvo earlier this year said it would recruit another 1,200 workers.

Volvo CEO Stefan Jacoby says the Goteborg-based company is "currently selling everything we can produce of the Volvo XC60, V60 and S60" models, and that it needs to hire more people to satisfy demand.

After slashing about 25 percent of its 25,000 work force during the financial crisis, the company earlier this year said it would invest up to $11 billion in a worldwide expansion move over the next five years.
