Singapore to hold 2nd China Film Festival

SINGAPORE - Singapore will hold a five-day China Film Festival starting on June 6, and it will feature five Chinese films, the Media Development Authority said Thursday.

The film festival will open with the critically acclaimed Deep in the Clouds, a love story set in the remote mountains. It is directed by Liu Jie and swept four awards at the 13th Shanghai International Film Festival last year.

It will be followed by The Piano in The Factory, Walking to School and The Dreams of Jinsha.

The last to be aired will be Eternal Moment, a box office hit in China directed by Zhang Yibai.

The five films "present a snapshot of China's vibrant and diverse film industry and highlight a new generation of film makers exploring a variety of genres including romance, drama and animation," the Media Development Authority said.

The 2011 China Film Festival is organized by the Media Development Authority of Singapore with the support of the Film Bureau under China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), with the aim of promoting film exchanges.

Following the 2011 China Film Festival in Singapore, China will host a Singapore Film Festival next year.

It is the second time that both parties are collaborating to host film festivals in each other's country. The two countries signed a bilateral film co-production treaty last year.
