6.6-magnitude quake hits off Japan's east coast

BEIJING - An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale jolted the waters off the east coast of Honshu, Japan, at 3:18 pm Beijing Time Tuesday, according to the China Earthquake Network Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 20 km, was monitored at 37.2 degrees north latitude and 144.0 degrees east longitude, the center said in a statement.
