6.5-magnitude earthquake hits off Japan's Honshu

BEIJING - An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale on Sunday jolted near the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 9:26 am, according to the China Earthquake Network Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10 km, was monitored at 35.6 degrees north latitude and 142.0 degrees east longitude, the center said in a statement.
