35 killed in boat capsizing in northern India

NEW DELHI - Thirty five people, mostly women and children, were killed when a boat capsized in the Ganga river in the northern Indian state of Bihar Sunday night, reported the Indo-Asian News Service Monday.

Overloading caused the incident which took place in the Buxar district of Bihar, the reported quoted police as saying.

There were around 80 people in the boat when the accident took place near Dallupur bank, about 125 km from the state capital Patna. At least 15 people were still missing, said the report.

The passengers, all of them poor laborers, were returning after plucking maize.
