Powerful quake rocks eastern Indonesia

JAKARTA - A powerful quake measuring 6.2 magnitude on Richter scale struck off Ternate of North Maluku province in eastern parts of Indonesia on Friday, no tsunami warning was issued, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported in Jakarta.  

The quake jolted at 12:43 pm Jakarta time (0543 GMT) with epicenter at 225 km northeast Ternate and with the depth at 110 km under sea bed, an official of the agency Rahma Sarita told Xinhua.

The intensity of the quake was felt at 4 MMI (Modified Mercally Intensity) at Tobelo and Galela, she said.
