HAVANA - Former Cuban president Fidel Castro reappeared at the Havana University on Friday morning and spoke to the thousands of students gathered there on the "imminent dangers which threat the mankind."

Castro stood while making his speech and wore his traditional olive-green uniform, although without his Commander in Chief military insignia.

"I thought I would never return to these university steps, where I discovered my destiny," said Castro.

The Cuban historical leader has always said that he became a revolutionary at the Havana University in the end of the 1940s.

Castro handed over power to his brother Raul due to a complicated intestinal surgery four years ago. After that he appeared once at the university but sitting and with sportswear, but now he stood for the first time while speaking to the crowd and wore his traditional uniform at the High Studies Centre.
