DPRK air force, navy join flood relief in NW

PYONGYANG - The Air Force and Navy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have taken part in the flood relief work in northwest of the country, the official news agency KCNA reported on Sunday.

Top leader Kim Jong Il has ordered the Korean People's Army to launch "rescue battle" to the disaster area of Sinuiju City, where flood water overflowed the bank forcing local people to their roofs waiting for rescue, it said.

The flood has also destroyed public establishment of downtown Sinuiju City.

Dozens of helicopters, ships and various equipments were dispatched to transfer some 5,150 victims in the disaster area.

No casualties were reported in the flood area.
