SANTO DOMINGO - The US Coast Guard repatriated 323 illegal immigrants to Haiti Tuesday, according to the Dominican media.
The illegal immigrants were intercepted by the US Coast Guard near the Bahama Islands on July 30 and August 1 respectively.
The two boats carrying the illegal immigrants were at risk of sinking due to severe overloading when they were intercepted, the Coast Guard said.
According to a 1981 agreement signed by the United States and Haiti, all Haitian illegal immigrants intercepted by US authorities will be repatriated.
