Landslide near Indonesian mine kills one, injures 21

JAKARTA - Landslide near a mine operated by US giant miner PT Freeport Indonesia in Papua province on Monday killed one person and injured 21 others, National Disaster Management Agency reported on Tuesday.

The accident occurred when the man with other wounded persons were collecting trace amount of gold in Utikini village located about three kilometers from the mine, spokesman of the agency Priyadi Kardono told Xinhua over phone.

All the wounded person have been rushed to a nearby hospital, he said.

Landslide has been frequently occurred in Indonesia particularly during the wet season which takes place from April to December.
