The Korean people desire peace and stability more ardently than any others, but the most acute military confrontation in the world persists on the peninsula, the Rodong Sinmun said in a commentary.

Huge US forces are permanently present in the Republic of Korea and in its vicinity, watching for a chance to ignite a nuclear war against the DPRK anytime, it said.

It is the strong military power of the DPRK that helped prevent the second Korean war, a nuclear war from breaking out on the peninsula, the commentary said.

The newspaper urged the United States not to pay lip-service to peace and stability on the peninsula but show its will by responding to the DPRK's proposal for concluding a peace treaty.
