MEXICO CITY - The Mexican Health Ministry said on Monday that 71,393 cases of A/H1N1 influenza have been confirmed up to March 10, including 1,108 deaths.

Eighty-six cases and five deaths were registered in the recent two days, the ministry said in a statement.

The figures show an upward trend in Mexico City, the state of Mexico, San Luis Potosi and Nuevo Leon, it said.

The ministry said that out of the 1,108 casualties, 60.4 percent had pathological records. About 69.5 percent of the patients were between 20 and 54 years old.

According to the World Health Organization, a total of 16,455 A/H1N1 flu-related deaths have been reported worldwide since the flu first broke out in 2009.
