US military helicopter crashes in Germany

A US military helicopter crashed in a western Germany forest at nightfall on Wednesday, at least two people killed, one missing, German police said.

The crash happened at about 6:20 pm (1720GMT) in a forest near the A67 highway between Viernheim and Lorsch in Hesse state, about 100 kilometers south of Frankfurt, police said.

A spokesman for the US Army Europe said the helicopter was a UH-60 Black Hawk, designed to carry 11 soldiers with equipment at most.

Three people were aboard when the crash happened, Reuters reported earlier.

The spokesman said the military had no information about the cause or casualties of the crash currently.

Southern Germany was hit by heavy snow in last two days, and bad weather was expectedly to continue in next one or two days.
