Suez Environment wins water treatment contract in Chongqing

Suez Environment, one of the world's leading water service providers, said on Friday that its subsidiary Sino French Water has won a 30-year water treatment contract in Chongqing, providing drinking water for 1.2 milliion residents in the Yuelai district of the city.

Suez Environment will construct a water treatment plant in the Yuelai with a daily output of 600,000 cu m drinking water when complete.

Suez Environment will also provide network service for the project, the company said in a statement.

The project will involve a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan ($219.6 million) over 30 years, of which 420 million yuan will come from Suez Environment.

"The contract is a milestone for the close cooperation between Suez Environment and Chongqing municipality," Jean-Louis Chaussade, CEO of Suez Environment, said.

The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion in 2011, reaching a daily capacity of 200,000 cu m, the company said.
