While there weren't the billowing clouds that turned Sydney red last month, a front overnight brought a smattering of dirt from inland Australia to the Harbour City.

"Most people would have noticed that it was a bit hazy this morning," Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Neale Fraser said. "It's dust. We did get some before and after the front passed through Sydney (overnight)."

The dust was brought by west and north-westerly winds and it might have originated from inland Australia again, he said.

Last week Sydneysiders braced wintry conditions as strong winds buffeted the city from the south and east.

There was a similar hazy day before the big dust storm, and it was the same sort of inland dust that led to hazy skies, Fraser said, Sydneysiders could be spared another day like September 23.

The dust haze would fade by mid-morning and was expected to clear completely by lunch-time, Fraser said.
