Russia, US to hold 1st round of missile defense talks

MOSCOW: Russia and the United States will hold a first round of talks on missile defense before the upcoming visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on October 12-14, said Russian Foreign Ministry Thursday.

The talks at the expert level will take place in Moscow, said ministry spokesman Andrei Nesterenko at a press briefing.

Nesterenko said the Russian delegation will be headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, while the US delegation by Deputy Secretary of State Elena Tausher, the Interfax news agency reported.

The spokesman also said that the results of the talks may be reported to Clinton and her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, when they attended the plenary meeting held in Moscow on October 13.
