MOSCOW: Three policemen were killed and two others injured in an explosion in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia, the Itar-Tass news agency reported on Friday, citing the local interior ministry.

In the event, a police vehicle hit a land mine near a village in the Sunzha district on Friday noon, leaving the three police officers dead and another two injured, the Ingush Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass.

An investigation into the incident is underway, the ministry said.

The restive North Caucasus region has seen a rise in violence in recent months, with attacks on police, troops and authorities being reported almost daily.

Two separate car bombings in Dagestan, another North Caucasus republic, killed at least one person and injured 19 others on Tuesday.
