Two peacekeepers kidnapped in Sudan's Darfur

KHARTOUM: Two members of the hybrid peacekeeping force of the United Nations and the African Union in Darfur (UNAMID) were kidnapped in the restive western Sudanese region on Saturday.

"An office of the UNAMID at Zalingei in western Darfur region was attacked by a group of persons at 4:00 am local time (0100 GMT), and two international staffers, a man and a woman, were abducted" Noureddine Mezni, the spokesman of the UNAMID, told Xinhua.

He said that the UNAMID was in contact with the kidnappers, but they refused to disclose the identity of the kidnappers or their motivation to kidnap the international peacekeepers, adding that there are some information that we will announce at a suitable time."
