6.2 magnitude earthquake occurs off Vanuatu

WELLINGTON : A strong earthquake measuring 6. 2 on the Richter scale struck the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.  

The quake, which occurred at 10:01 a.m. Vanuatu local time (23:01 GMT Sunday), was centered 30 km west of the Vanuatu capital of Port Villa. It was at a depth of 67.3 km.

No casualties or damages were reported so far.    

No tsunami warning had been issued by the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
